Layla Goolamallee & Joshua Shimizu —2022 Volunteers of the Year

‘I learned about Ausome from one of my co-workers that had volunteered at a few of the programs. She absolutely loved it—she told me how much she enjoyed the staff/volunteers and how rewarding it felt to support children with autism. I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.’  —Layla

2022 has given us two Ausome volunteers of the year—it’s a double header!

Our first Ausome volunteer of the year is Layla. Since joining Ausome in December 2021, you can find Layla at programs such as Snowshoe, Get Moving, Soccer and Basketball. Dedicated and positive, Layla loves supporting athletes and cheering them on at programs. When not volunteering, she is working on her high school courses and at her part-time job. Layla recently received her acceptance letter for a neuroscience program at her top school which she will be attending this fall!

Our second volunteer of the year is Josh. Since joining Ausome in March 2022, Josh has volunteered at Ausome Basketball, Soccer, Virtual NIA and Gymnastics. A fixture at our Basketball programs, Josh loves to help Ausome athletes one-on-one and watch them succeed. Finding community service through volunteering with his competitive hockey team, Josh joined Ausome to meet new people and help others learn through sport. When not volunteering, you can find Josh hanging out with his friends and playing sports. His New Year’s resolution for 2023? To give back to the community even more!

Congratulations, Layla and Josh— you.are.AUSOME! 🤩
