Most sport-specific programs have a head coach who is certified by their sports’ coaching body. He or she is skilled at extending or simplifying games and activities for kids of all levels. In addition, at each program, there will be an Autism Behaviour Specialist in the room.
She will have prepared the space and will monitor it continuously to ensure that every child has the best experience possible on that day.
To support the children, trained volunteers will be present in a ratio appropriate to the specific group, usually 1:1 or 2:1, child:adult.
Our Ausome volunteers are unique, passionate and kind-hearted people who believe in sport for all
Parents are not permitted in the play area for three reasons:
Yes! Most of our programs fill up very quickly so we do suggest you register as soon as the program opens.
We update both our website and social media once the program is full. When a program is full, there will be a link on our website to join the waitlist.
Please only register for a program if you are able to attend each session, as it takes a spot away from another child.
Please visit our Facebook and PROGRAMS pages regularly to keep up to date on new/upcoming programs and registration dates.
Ausome’s Senior Program Director is Anna Whyte, an autism behaviour therapist with years of clinical intervention experience.
All of our Program Directors and Leads are overseen and trained by Anna. They have backgrounds in behaviour therapy and many years working directly with children with autism.
If you and your child are comfortable with you leaving, you are welcome to go grab a coffee while your child is busy being Ausome.
At this time Ausome provides programs for children aged 4 through 12, though we do hope to provide programs for a wider age range in the future.
The location of each program varies on the nature of the program (ie. Water Polo vs. Baseball), as well as facility availability and cost.
To view the location for a specific activity, please visit the Programs page of our website.
Know any businesses or facilities that would be perfect to host an Ausome Program? Drop us a line, we’d love to hear more!
We ask that volunteers commit a minimum of 2 hours per month, though you are more than welcome to commit to more!
Yes, absolutely! Print and bring your form to the last program you will be attending, and Ausome staff will be happy to sign it.
You do not need to have formal training as a volunteer.
At your first session, the Program Director/Lead will walk you through what to expect, and inform you of any pertinent details.
We have behaviour therapists in the gym at all times should you have a question or need assistance.
Please note: each program volunteer is required to have a valid Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector prior to commencing volunteer duties.
