Why Should I be a Member of Team Ausome?

To have an Ausome time!
Improve you fitness, build community and raise funds for Ausome sports and recreation programs!
You will be supporting a great cause and having fun at the same time!
Ausome Ottawa enriches the lives of families living with Autism through sport.
This will give you, your family and friends an opportunity to be part of a team with a shared goal.
Not only will you raise awareness about Autism in our community, you will have pride in completing an event at Ottawa Race Weekend!
The money raised through fundraising for Team Ausome through the Scotiabank Charity Challenge, will be put towards making sport and recreation programming to children with Autism more accessible. It will allow Ausome Ottawa to provide training to local individuals, clubs and teams.

Who Should Join?

Ausome Ottawa staff, volunteers, participants, their families and friends and members of the community.
Running pros and running beginners – everyone is welcome!

When is the Race?

Ottawa Race Weekend takes place over May 26-27, 2018.
Here is a link to the schedule of events:
Our goal is to get as many Ausome kids and their families to partake in the 2 kilometer race. The 2 kilometer race takes place on May 26, 2018 at 3 p.m.
However, individuals may choose to do additional races and would be cheered on by Team Ausome!

How Do I Register?

Please see this link about the steps of registering for the race and to become a member of the Team Ausome Charity Challenge:

My child has never run in a 2 kilometers race before, what should I do to get ready?

Children will be encouraged to do what they are able – whether or not that means running the whole thing, walking the distance or somewhere in between!
Ausome Ottawa will be running a Kids Run Club 7 weeks prior to the big race day. Please check out our facebook page and website for updated information.
This club will get kids moving, running, stretching and learning some running training tips along the way. We will be distributing a newsletter with tips and suggestions about getting ready for Race Day!
The goal of the club will be to have fun and work towards a shared goal!
It is not mandatory for runners to be a member of the Kids Run Club to participate on Team Ausome during the Ottawa Race Weekend.

I’m worried my child would be too overwhelmed to run during Ottawa Race Weekend?

We encourage all Ausome children to participate in the Kids Run Program or Friends & Family Run Club even if they do not plan to run during the Ottawa Race Weekend.
We will also be staging a quieter 2 kilometer race towards the end of May. More details to follow.

How can I Help Team Ausome?

You can spread the word about Ausome Ottawa and the work we are doing to support the Autism community, you can donate, you can fundraise and/or be part of our team!
By being a member of the team you are helping to raise awareness about Autism in our community.
Money raised goes directly to creating sports programs for kids with autism – programs that are provided free to families and which have just the right setting and support for this group of kids and their families. If the programs already exist in the community, Ausome Ottawa helps families to access them, either by providing the information and/or support they need.
When an individual raises $50, they will receive a technical Team Ausome race shirt as our thank you!

Do I have to participate with my child on Race Day?

We are hoping parents will be inspired to train during the Family & Friends Run Club to get ready for Race Day.
Children must be accompanied by an adult on Race Day. We are encouraging parents and families to complete the 2 kilometer race together.
However, if this is not possible, we can match your child with an Ausome volunteer. Please contact rebecca@ausomeottawa, for more information.
